Newbury returns to the rink

The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Kris Newbury has not changed his view on fighting in hockey, even though he was knocked out cold when the back of his head hit the ice in a scrap last Saturday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward was back at the rink on Monday, feeling fine less than 48 hours he was wheeled off Air Canada Centre ice on a stretcher and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of a possible head injury.

"It was a freak accident and this sort of thing happens every once in a while," said Newbury, who worked out on a stationary bike on Monday and will be kept off the ice for a couple of days. "I haven't changed how I think about fighting. If one of my teammates needs protection or if I think it will give my team a lift, I will do it."
