Recovering Newbury released from hospital after knockout

Leaf forward Kris Newbury was listed as day-to-day after suffering a head injury Saturday night after falling during a fight. He bled from the ears after his head slammed to the ice, his helmet having already fallen off. The 24-year-old was kept overnight for observation and released yesterday from Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital.

"It's too early to say anything categorical, but the results of the testing were good," Leaf GM John Ferguson said yesterday.

PECA'S WEIGHT WAIT: Injured centre Mike Peca was walking with the aid of a cane at Saturday night's game at the Air Canada Centre. Peca said he's a long way from returning after surgery in December to repair a shattered knee.
