Marlies Defeat Phantoms 5-4
In a high-scoring affair, the Toronto Marlies topped the Philadelphia Phantoms 5-4 in front of 5,061 boisterous fans at Ricoh Coliseum Sunday evening, in the second of two consecutive home wins. Toronto has now won three of its last four home games. Led by first-star-of-the-game Staffan Kronwall, in his first multi-point game of the season, the Marlies took an early lead which they never relinquished, though the Phantoms frequently closed the lead to just one goal.
The Marlies took a quick two-goal advantage in the first period with goals only eight seconds apart. After receiving a pass from John Mitchell, Kronwall scored his first goal of the season by firing a wrist shot past Philadelphia Phantoms starting netminder Martin Houle. Seconds later Brett Engelhardt forced the puck through Houle's five-hole to put the Marlies up 2-0. Colin Murphy and Brad Brown recorded the assist on Engelhardt's goal.
