Rangers and Leafs cuffed by salary cap

A Big Bash on Broadway, indeed.

When the Maple Leafs and New York Rangers clash at Madison Square Garden tonight, there's no question there will be a significant amount riding on the outcome.

Both squads, after all, are battling for their very lives, at least in terms of hoping to play beyond the conclusion of the regular season schedule.

That both are scraping and scrambling for the same post-season position rather than a division lead or first place in the conference and is a reflection of the way in which both teams are grappling with the new demands of the salary cap era.
