Leafs' spirits boosted by winning streak

It is still too early for the Toronto Maple Leafs to think they have fully turned a corner -- after all, 40 years without a Stanley Cup hangs over the club like an ever-darkening cloud -- but their five-game winning streak has created a feeling of excitement among the players, and among the people at the top of the organization.

"I've got a smile on my face that goes from ear to e a r," Leafs chairman Larry Tanenbaum exclaimed from his Toronto office yesterday. "When the Leafs are winning, all of Toronto feels better about itself. You go into work with a bit of a lighter step, and it's a wonderful feeling. Now that the Raptors are also winning, it makes it even sweeter. It has obviously taken the city longer to feel good about the Raptors, but it's coming."
