January flurry is giving JFJ food for thought

The month of January, for all intents and purposes, killed the Maple Leafs last season.

This season, it may have saved them.

Winning eight games in the opening month of the year, including a solid 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers last night that left the Blueshirts fuming about the supposedly illegal treatment of scoring star Jaromir Jagr, has put the Leafs in an intriguing position on the first day of February.

As the team's new musical ritual – "Poison" by Alice Cooper followed by System of the Down's "BYOB" – boomed through the corridors of well-worn Madison Square Garden afterwards, there was indeed a loud new sense of confidence emanating from the Leaf dressing quarters as well.
