The Leafs and their oft-injured defenceman reached an agreement that will pay the emerging star $1.283 million (all figures U.S.) a year for the next three years.

'He has demonstrated a commitment to the organization and us to him,' said Ferguson. 'He made some great strides as a pro last year especially and we ended up relying on him in a lot of situations. He's got a real good up-side for us. I impressed upon him the importance of keeping that going in the right direction.'"
