Newbury shrugs off 'accident'

It was stomach-churning.

Kris Newbury's head bounced off the Air Canada Centre ice Saturday night and then the Maple Leafs forward lay unconscious in a pool of his own blood, motionless until he was taken away, strapped to a spine board.

So the ringing in his ears yesterday was understandable. Except this wasn't concussion-related. It was friends and family phoning to wish him well, including an unexpected caller from Pittsburgh.
