Ferguson Sr. sees son rise in Philadelphia

John Ferguson Sr. caught a break this week.

The former Montreal Canadiens tough guy, who carved out a fine 500-game National Hockey League career and was a member of five Stanley Cup championship teams between 1963-64 and 1970-71, was up early enough Wednesday to catch the 6 a.m. train from Windsor, Ont., to Toronto in order to join the Toronto Maple Leafs for their father-son trip to Philadelphia.

Ferguson, whose son, John Jr., is in his fourth year as the Maple Leafs' general manager, has been battling a second go-around with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, but there was no way he was going to miss this trip.
